In these, its waterfalls are included. Running water, green landscape and sounds of birds provide relaxation for everybody. One of them is the waterfall of Caledonia, as it is called.

The Caledonian Waterfall and its relationship to Scotland

The name of the Caledonian Waterfall is believed to have been given to it by the English. An actually, the Scots. Cyprus has always been a place where the English arrived. When they visited this area, around 1878, the English and Scots, about two kilometres north of P. Platres, they saw the waterfall which fascinated them. It reminded them of their homeland as it is said. The waterfall reminded them of the natural landscapes of the country from which they left. That’s what they called it, the Caledonian Waterfall. This is because the ancient name of Scottland is Caledonia. The inhabitants of Platres called it and still call it the Caledonian Waterfall (or just “Caledonia”).

Cyprus and the unparalleled beauty of the waterfall

Cyprus has many waterfalls that are impressive and particularly tall. This waterfall is located in the territory of the community of Ano Platres, in the heart of the Troodos National Forest Park. This impressive monument of nature is found in the bed of the river “Cold Water”, which is one of the few rivers with a continuous flow that Cyprus has. The Caledonian Waterfall is one of the highest in Cyprus. The water falls vertically from a height of 12 meters. The path to the waterfall, on foot, is enchantingStarting from Troodos Square and descending, following the old Street Platron-Troodos, we reach the point from which the river passes. From there, we follow the path that goes parallel to the river. The route is very rich in vegetation, mainly from pines, plane trees and ivy. On the way, you will also encounter small lakes that make the landscape even more beautiful.

External photography source: Paphos Hikers

Kalopanagiotis: One of the most beautiful mountain resorts in Cyprus

Cyprus has unparalleled natural beauty and landscapes that are difficult to find elsewhere.
