Apart from beauty, picturesqueness, and captivating sunsets, there are islands in Greece that stand out for unknown stories, secret loves, and inspiring moments. Islands that were loved by artists and that were their inspiration and islands that may not be so touristic and popular but had this something that won many loyal exponents of the art. Such a case is the island of Salamina, the largest in the Saronic Gulf, which hosts a house with a very long history.<\/strong> It is the house where the great Angelos Sikelianos<\/strong> chose to spend the last years of his life and there to find peace and inspiration.<\/p>\n

A house with a great history exists in Salamina<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Angelos Sikelianos<\/strong> was in Salamina in 1933 and among other things visited the monastery of Faneromeni<\/strong>. This visit was decisive for his subsequent choice to stay there. He was so impressed and captivated by the unique beauty of the landscape that he expressed a desire to be given a place to stay. That’s what happened. Indeed, he was given a small house on the beach of the monastery. There he would eventually retire and live the last years of his life.<\/strong> And not only did he stay there, but the place inspired him so much that there he created a very large and very important part of his work.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/picture>It is the house with a long history in which he wrote much of his work but also lived his personal and family moments with Anna Kampanari<\/strong> from 1938 until the end of 1949. However, a few years later, and specifically since 1951, with the death of Angelos Sikelianos, the house was deserted. In 2006, however, after interventions and renovations, the house was reopened this time to the public and can be visited. It is open to visitors and one can see various exhibits and souvenirs from the life of the great poet. From furniture and photographs to his letters. There, between heaven and sea, the house is a refuge for the peace of soul and spirit.<\/p>\n
