It is one of the most favorite islands for day trips or weekend getaways. There is also a special castle town that is modeled on <strong>Mystras of Laconia<\/strong> that will literally enchant you if you decide to visit it. Paleochora as they call it is considered <strong>the Mystras of the Saronic Gulf<\/strong> whose inhabitants abandoned the city 200 years ago to go down to the port, free from pirate raids. Since then, \u201c<strong>Mystras of Aegina<\/strong>\u201d stands deserted, boasting of its unique beauty that fascinates you. The visitor will wander through the stone paths of the <strong>castle town<\/strong> and will have the opportunity to visit its Medieval churches.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"style-scope yt-formatted-string\" dir=\"auto\">According to tradition, there were <strong>365 churches in Paleochora<\/strong>, one for each day of the year. However, historical studies indicate that there were actually around 50. Today, you can visit the 33 of them that still stand the test of time.
