What has made Acheron widely known is the myth associated with it. Specifically, in antiquity, it was believed that this was what the psychopomp Hermes passed through Acheron, delivering the souls of the dead to the Underworld. Folk tradition even mentions that the waters of Acheron were bitter, poisoned by a gnome that lived inside them. These bitter waters became a thing of the past when Saint Donatos killed, says this element, and so the rivers became freshwater and the nearby village of Glyki got its name. A diamond village and well known in Epirus.

<picture></picture>A river full of life and beauty

Despite its great length, this river is navigable in part of it and specifically only in its last kilometers.
