Built on the eastern roots of lower Olympus, at an altitude of 500 meters, the settlement of Palaios Panteleimonas combines, on the one hand, the presence of the mountainous landscape, along with the existence of the sea, which you will find at a distance of less than five kilometers. In the middle of the last century and for about thirty years, the village was abandoned by its inhabitants, who preferred the nearby coastal places, thus creating Neos Panteleimonas. But after about three decades of desolation, the gradual restoration begins, and with it the restoration of the place, which resulted in the creation of this absolutely fairytale setting.<\/p>\n

The so-called “balcony of Mount Olympus in the Aegean” will captivate you at first sight with its unparalleled architecture, highly indicative of Macedonian art, which marries with the aesthetics of Epirus. You will find the houses in the village standing proudly on the steep slopes, built from their first material, stone from Mount Olympus itself, while the tiled roofs that sit atop them become a shelter for birds looking for space to anchor their nests.<\/p>\n

The heart of the village beats in its central square, the kind of precinct of the holy church of Agios Panteleimonas, the church that gave its name to the whole village, while near it stand the old school with its new capacity as a guesthouse, but also the caf\u00e9 of the village that awaits you to try Greek coffee made in embers, accompanied by traditional handmade spoon sweets. The magical picture is completed by the presence of nature, with the plane tree, which has many centuries of life, elms, and vines, giving the environment a green note. The village’s territory also houses the Environmental Education Center of Eastern Olympus, which provides information on flora and fauna in the wider region.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind that in Palaios Panteleimonas, it is forbidden to pass vehicles, and you will park in the parking area before entering the settlement. For this reason, put on your sneakers and get ready to discover it by hiking in its picturesque streets. Your ally in exploration is the sign at the village entrance that indicates the directions to the main points of the settlement. For everything else, one question to one of the hospitable residents is enough.<\/p>\n

\"Pieria-Palaios-Panteleimonas\"<\/picture>The verdant environment, with a dense forest of chestnut and beech trees surrounding the village, is the ideal place to indulge in hiking or cycling, where you will enjoy its enchanting scenery while feeling one step closer to nature. Follow the paths that lead you to the neighboring, equally traditional settlements of Palaia Poroi and Palaia Skotina to admire up close the unique Holy temple, as well as the giant plane tree that adorns their scenery.<\/p>\n

Do not miss the opportunity to cross the 12 kilometers of the green route, lined with pine and fir trees, culminating in the artificial lake “Kati” at an altitude of over 1,000 meters, with a landscape so beautiful it will leave you speechless.<\/p>\n

How to get there: <\/b>Palaios Panteleimonas is 400 km from Athens and 100 km from Thessaloniki. A journey of about 4 hours from the capital is enough to reach your wonderful destination.<\/p>\n
