Folegandros, one of the jewels of the Cyclades, invites you to discover it on foot, since your car is unnecessary to explore the island. Wonderful beaches that you can reach on foot or by boat, very traditional settlements with paths worth crossing, alternate with shady squares, giving the necessary breath of fresh air\u00a0to continue the adventure of the trip. But where should you definitely stop while you are in Folegandros?<\/p>\n

Move north to find the village of Ano Meria, where you can visit its folklore museum housed in a characteristic farmhouse and the lighthouse of Aspropounta to experience the tranquility that overwhelms you.<\/p>\n

But above all, wander around the golden cave, this monument of cultural heritage, with the unique beauty that its inaccessible location requires climbing the “Greek steps”, should not discourage you from being there and admiring it.<\/p>\n

To get to the sweatshop, there is the option of a half-hour hike, but I prefer the route by boat that starts from the port of the island.<\/p>\n

Agali<\/strong>: At a distance of about 3 kilometers from Chora, you will find the beach of Agali. On its coast, ideal for the whole family, you will find sand interspersed with scattered pebbles and crystal-clear<\/span>\u00a0waters.<\/p>\n

Although it is not organized, take your umbrella with you to ensure shade, within walking distance you can find restaurants to buy your food and drinks. Its small pier serves as a base for the beaches of Livadaki and Agios Nikolaos, where tourist boats operate\u00a0regularly.<\/p>\n

To find yourself swimming in its waters, you need to cross a dirt road or hike for about thirty minutes, without always excluding the alternative of sea access.<\/p>\n

Hochlidia:<\/strong> The pebbled, as its name suggests, coast of Hochlidia is in direct visual contact with the port of Folegandros, in the settlement of Karavostasis<\/strong>. The tamarisk trees you will find on their beach will offer you their natural shade while you enjoy diving in clear, sheltered waters.<\/p>\n

Just so you know: The origin of the name Folegandros, by many, is speculated to be based on the eponymous son of Minos, while others trace it to the Phoenician word for “stony earth”.<\/p>\n
