Every corner of Greece indeed holds a story, and often a surprise. Even if you\u2019ve visited a place multiple times, there\u2019s always the chance to discover something new and remarkable. Take, for instance, a particular cave in Kefalonia<\/strong>. It\u2019s the only cave in Greece where concerts are held. This is the Drogarati Cave<\/strong>, one of Kefalonia\u2019s must-see attractions during your visit to the island.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The cave and its history <\/strong><\/h3>\n

The cave of Drogarati was discovered about 300 years ago due to an earthquake. Specifically, a part of it collapsed due to the strong seismic vibration, resulting in the creation of the current entrance. It is located 3 km from Sami and at an altitude of 120 meters, its depth reaches 95 meters and its temperature is 18 degrees Celsius all year round. It is considered one of the best caves in Greece and is the only one with such a large room (dimensions 65×45 and height of about 20 meters) and one of the most suitable for cave therapy.<\/p>\n

In the beginning the cave was exploited by the community of Haliotata, under the supervision of the speleologist Mrs. Anna Petrocheilos and since 1963 it is open to the public all year round.<\/strong> What many do not know, as with other caves, is that the cave of Drogarati<\/strong> is alive, as its creation continues. What’s that supposed to mean? Drops fall from the stalagmites constantly. Attention! Under no circumstances should you ever touch drops that are ready to fall in any cave because in this way you destroy the cave. <\/strong>In fact, this cave dates back more than 100 million years! A stalactite grows by about one centimeter every hundred years, so one realizes its importance.<\/p>\n

The only Greek cave in which concerts take place<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The cave room in Kefalonia is decorated with stalactites and stalagmites and has wonderful acoustics. This feature is what makes it special. This is because it is the only cave in Greece where concerts are organized.<\/strong> In fact, the hall is properly configured with a special platform for this purpose.<\/p>\n

To reach the cave of Drogarati you have to descend from specially designed steps<\/strong>, which due to the increased humidity are quite dangerous. For this reason, great care is needed so that the memories of this cave are only positive.<\/p>\n
