Many of these villages may have few inhabitants left, but their history is long and special. And very often we do not know it. This is also the case with a village near Athens. The reason for Krokyleion in Central Greece, and specifically in Fokida. It is a beautiful village, surrounded by greenery that looks like it has come out of a fairy tale. If you want to relax and live for a few 24 hours next to nature, then you should prefer it.

Travel to Itea: The coastal town that does not catch your eye

Krokyleio: The historic village and bell tower from France that was carried by hand

Krokyleio is a historic village since, among other things, it is the place of origin of General Ioannis Makrigiannis. The few but hospitable residents of the village, which is perched at an altitude of 850 meters, will tell you about this and other elements of its history. And of course for its famous bell tower. The clock that adorns the bell tower of the stone church of Agios Georgios is of French construction of 1859. It was even bought in 1908 from a fundraiser made by those who worked at that time in Lavrion. The story also says that in 1909, the clock arrived by boat in Erateini, and from there it was transported by the locals on foot to the village.

In the village, apart from the rest and tranquility, you will enjoy an idyllic environment.
