Gaios, the dominant port, and capital of the island, with a name that refers to the Christian faith, is waiting to welcome you as a well-kept secret behind the verdant small islands of Panagia, dominated by the monastery of Panagia Vellianites and the desert of Agios Nikolaos, with the ruins of the famous Venetian castle, designed with his pen by Da Vinci himself.

The picturesqueness of the landscape you will see wants the houses painted with colors and their roofs made of tile, will leave you fully impressed. Start your walks at the pier and the busy Venetian square, while do not forget to make a stop at the buildings of the folklore museum, the old English Government House, and the statue of the hero George Anemogiannis.

Just 5 kilometers from Gaios, your starting point, you will find the seaside Longos. Wander around its port, a base for your excursions to spectacular caves, such as that of Ypapanti, and before you sit down to eat fresh fish, reach its edge to see up close the once magnificent stone soap factory.

Move north and in front of you will appear the beautiful Lakka, with its popular sailing center, filled with olive and cypress trees. The lighthouse of the 19th century that you will find standing just outside the village, will enchant you with the view it offers.
