A quiet location. A place that no matter what time of year you find yourself there, you will enjoy moments of relaxation overlooking the Acropolis of Lindos. Rhodes is the island that surprises you every time. And you always have something special to see and admire. The Acropolis of Lindos is one of them. In Lindos, in fact, lies the most important archaeological site of Rhodes. The rock, in which the Acropolis stands out, is a unique attraction. It is located on a steep slope that is 116 meters high and dominates like a guard over the city, today.
According to history, it was fortified by the inhabitants of the area in antiquity, as well as by the later conquerors. In 700 BC it had already become an important commercial center in the Aegean Sea and had a large naval force.
The Acropolis of Lindos and its history
During classical times, although historically it was a Doric city, it normally participated in the Delos Alliance, but during the Peloponnesian War it had allied itself with the Lacedemonies. Its importance gradually diminished after the founding of Rhodes in 407 BC. Its ancient acropolis was exploited not only by the ancients but also later by the Romans, the Byzantines, the Ioannites Knights, and finally, by the Turks.

In Lindos, in addition to the archaeological site, you will find two very beautiful beaches located on the east coast of the island. It is only a few meters outside the homonymous settlement. They are about 50 km away. from the city of Rhodes, while there is the possibility to enjoy your swim on other nearby beaches of the area. Even in October, the waters are warm and you'll think it's summer. Some even say they prefer the autumn season more for their swimming there.
The main beach is well organized and provides sunbeds, umbrellas, a kiosk, and a snack bar. Its soil is covered with sand and its waters are shallow and clean.
You can also test your skills in various water sports. Around the beach, you will find taverns with traditional food as well as many restaurants. And all this against the background of the beautiful Acropolis of Lindos. This historic corner of the country you have to visit at some point in your life.
