Spetses is a historic, noble, and impressive island of the Argosaronic Gulf. It is located a breath away from Athens as it is 50 miles from Piraeus and just 1.5 miles from Ermionida. During the period 1821-1832, this island of the Argosaronic Gulf played a leading role in the Greek Revolution. Its inhabitants were the first to raise the flag of the Revolution while their fleet took part in a large number of naval battles, such as Armata, as well as blockades of forts, specifically Nafplio and Monemvasia.

Laskarina Bouboulina lived in the famous island of Spetses and there is her mansion that has been converted into a museum and was built in the late 17th century.

Excursion to the Argosaronic Gulf: Why go to Spetses

On this beautiful island of the Argosaronic Gulf, you will find houses full of bougainvilleas, and picturesque alleys and you will not need a car to get around it as in other nearby islands.

Before the sun sets, it is the ideal time for a walk on the upper side of Dapia. You will see white mansions that will enchant you while the Old Port will be the place you will love for your walks.

It's time to take your dives. One of the famous beaches of Spetses is Agia Marina. It is located near the center of the island and has endless sand. On the north side of Spetses, you will find Vrellos Beach, and on the southwest side the beach of Agioi Anargyroi.

Xylokeriza, Zogeria, and Agia Paraskevi are the least known and therefore the quietest beaches that are worth spreading your towel on.

In the square of the Revolution, you will take your walk, observe the cannons, and be transported for a while to the period of 1821. Where to eat and drink? Your choices in Spetses are so many and within walking distance that you will not want to leave.

Even in winter when the island is calmer and lives at a more relaxed pace. How long to sit? No matter how many days you spend in Spetses you will not get bored. That is for sure.
