Greece is famous for its stunning and clear beaches. Whether they have sand or fine pebbles, clear waters, trees that reach the sea, or moon-like landscapes, the Greek beaches are unique. One of them has been ranked among the 20 weirdest in the world by Travel + Leisure magazine. It is Xi Beach in Kefalonia, in the Ionian Sea. The images speak for themselves. You will not see such a color of sand and such a contrast with its clear waters anywhere else. It is one of the Greek beaches that mesmerize you, just like Sarakiniko beach in Milos, which resembles a moon landscape, and many other beaches on the island.

Xi Beach has a weird name and unique features. When you get close to it, you will see a spooky landscape with red sand and clay rocks. The clear blue waters create a dreamy contrast. The special sandy beach of Xi is in Palliki, south of Lixouri. This unusual reddish sand color mixes with the clay on the beach and you can enjoy a free natural spa treatment!

Not only does it have a remarkable color, but it also has a distinctive name. How did it come to be known by this name? It was inspired by the letter “Xi” (Ξ) in the Greek alphabet. This is because the letter looks like the shape of the bay, where the beach is located.

Kefalonia XiTip: The best time for diving for us is either early morning or at sunset. That’s when the sand’s orange-red color stands out more and the scenery becomes truly spooky.

Vacations in Kefalonia, diving on Greek beaches

Kefalonia is one of the islands for vacations that you need about a week to explore. It has many places, besides Xi Beach, where you can swim. For example, Myrtos Beach makes you feel like you are in heaven. But also the beach where the movie with Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was shot. Did you also know that in Kefalonia there is a Mysterious cave 150 million years old? Xi Beach might be just the opportunity to discover one of the most gorgeous spots in our country! And some of the most amazing Greek beaches…
