Excursion to Lagadia: A village with a history

Excursion to Lagadia
Lagkadia is a village with a history

The excursion to Lagadia will take place in a location with history. In the years of antiquity, the road Sparta - Megalopoli - Methydriou - Tefthidos - Heraias passed through the wider area. From this route, the Peloponnesians arrived in Olympia to see the Olympic Games. The village was built and inhabited somewhere in the 15th century. During the Turkish occupation, lads came out of there, with the best of all the burlottier Ioannis Theofilopoulos (Karavogiannis). He fought alongside  Konstantinos Kanaris for whom he has a macabre exhibit in the Museum of the Old Parliament in Athens, and a bust of him there commemorating his participation in the Revolution of 1821. In the square of Heroes, at the beginning of the village, stands the historic house of Deligiannides, which is the family that played an important role during the Turkish occupation, the years of the revolution, and the subsequent development of the Greek state.

This is the reason why at the entrance of the village there is the Monument of the Lagadian builder, a profession followed by the majority of the residents after the Revolution of 1821.
