A Natura protected area, with enchanting images. It is absolutely a must to take a tour of it as it abundantly offers you peace of mind. Ideal.

At an altitude of 630 meters above sea level, northwest of Greece the the lake of Kastoria can be found. It spans 28 square kilometres and is the eleventh largest lake in our country. It is also called Lake Orestida but most people call it the lake of Kastoria. And so we've come to love her.

In autumn and winter, the lake is like a painting. Not that the other two seasons fall short in any way, but in those months the lake gives a picture recital. And the city, although already high, seems to be going even higher.

The lake of Kastoria is an attraction on its own. The city is beautiful but you can go there just for the lake. Its depth ranges from 1.5 to 12 meters, with the average temperature at 22 degrees Celsius. The strange thing that happens on cold winter days, when the thermometer is well below zero, is that the lake freezes!

The lake is an active habitat as it has a rich birdlife. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded there. It is not lagging behind in fishlife, with the figures putting it in second place in terms of its catches. It is a protected site of the Natura 2000 network, with an important role in the reproduction of specific species.

Man set foot there many thousands of years ago. On the shores of Lake Kastoria, near the village of Dispilio, a prehistoric lake settlement of the 6th millennium BC has been excavated.

It's a lake with beautiful pictures and a great history. It's backing up the already beautiful city. Kastoria has many treasures to show to its visitor. It has museums worth visiting for Greeks and foreigners alike. The Macedonian Struggle Museum, the Folklore Museum, the Costume Museum, the Delinanion Folklore Museum and the Byzantine Museum. It has Dolcho, the most picturesque district of the city and A Apozari with its 17th and 18th-century mansions. The Monastery of Panagia Mavriotissa. The Dragon Cave. It's got so many other options.

It's like there's a magic power, but eventually, it all starts and ends up in the lake. The tour is imperative. The visitor has the opportunity to enjoy a uniquely enchanting route, next to beech trees and plane trees. Beautiful pictures both for the... Instagram and above all, our inner peace. Nature at its best...
