Four destinations for a three-day trip
Karpenisi
Karpenisi, a trip for restless explorers seems and is always a good choice for a three-day trip from Athens. The well-known and not excluded "diamond" of Evritania is located about 280 kilometers away from Athens and is an ideal choice to escape from everyday life and the hustle and bustle of the city. The area is green and suitable for nature lovers and those who love trails and hiking. The trademark of Karpenisi is the large square of Markos Botsari with its ornate marble fountains where you will surely spend many of the moments of your trip.
If you find yourself in Karpenisi do not forget to visit the Mountain Museum, the first of its kind in Greece. And of course, in this corner of Karpenisi, you will make one of the most beautiful gastronomic trips in Greece. Good meat and local recipes accompanied with wine or tsipouro. Apart from Karpenisi itself, there is much more to see and do in the area such as a magical walk in the gorge Panta Vrechi. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful gorges in Greece with plane trees, crystal springs, and the impressive waterfalls that form the waters of Krikelopotamos. The gorge is 59 km from Karpenisi.
Amfikleia
A favorite and close to Athens destination is Amfikleia, a town of traditional beauty, built at an altitude of 400 meters at the northern foot of Mount Parnassus. What makes it an alternative destination for those who want Parnassos but not crowds is that Amfikleia on the opposite side of the busy Arachova, which is about 50 km away, on the other side of Parnassos (about 50 minutes by car) moves at a slower and calmer pace and less touristy.
The fact that it is not very touristy, however, does not make it disadvantaged in accommodation and restaurants. You may find lower prices from Arachova and still be in the center of Parnassos. Among the special sights of Amfiklia is undoubtedly the Bread Museum, while if you are there during Carnival you will enjoy various special carnival customs such as hay.
A three-day trip to Spetses
To the sea now, if you want to escape somewhere nearby, then high on the list is Spetses, the island of Bouboulina. The first and most important thing to remember when you go to Spetses for three days is that these three days you forget what a car means. You can move around comfortably on foot, by carriage, or rent a motorbike. Spetses is ideal for walks in the harbor and promenade, for ice cream even if it is not summer and to see some interesting sights. One of them is the Bouboulina Mansion which operates as a museum. The duration of the trip from Piraeus to Spetses is about 2 hours, which is what you need for three days.
Well-known Greek films were also shot on Spetses, and how could this not happen on such a beautiful island? The point where love is born between the newly married couple, Andreas Barkoulis and Jenny Karezis. The Museum of Spetses is housed in the mansion of Hatzigiannis-Mexi, where he was one of the first rulers in the years of our National Independence Struggle.
Lake Doxa
If you want a fairytale setting and nature at its best, for your three-day trip, then you have chosen the right place. Within just two hours from Athens, you can find yourself in a place of unique beauty, ideal for a one-day excursion but also for a full three-day trip. When you reach the artificial Lake Doxa you will see that it is surrounded by green black pine trees that reach the banks and the scenery looks like it has sprung from a painting. You will enjoy a weekend full of beautiful images.
As far as sightseeing is concerned, in the center of the lake lies a narrow peninsula, where there is the small, picturesque church of Agios Fanourios. Do not forget to visit the historic monastery of Agios Georgios Feneos of the 15th century in the beautiful nature which is built on a hillside at a distance of about 2 km.
Whatever you choose, the destinations for a three-day stay in Greece are many and it is certain that you will have a good time!
