Cyprus is full of beauties and corners with a history lost in the depths of the centuries. But it is also a popular destination for alternative experiences. For holidays that are beyond the usual. The ones that fill you with images, aromas and flavours. You will live in Krasochoria one of these experiences. On the Wine Road in Cyprus.

Limassol and its Krasochoria

The winemaking villages of Limassol, as they are called, are located on the slopes of the Troodos mountain range. They are particularly famous for their viticulture, agrotourism, picturesqueness and tradition preservation! There you will take a tour in the history of winemaking and of course, you will taste many of its varieties. In Krasochoria there is a wide variety of strong red dry wines on which the whole touristic movent of this kind is about. Also, there you will taste the famous sweet wine Koumadaria which owes its name to the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem.

Cyprus and the Wine Road

The famous Krasochoria of Cyprus are in fact 20 traditional villages with cobbled alleys and beautiful squares as well as 16 wineries! This is, in fact, the Wine Road. The route for which Cyprus prides and fills you with images and flavours passes through Limassol, Kolossi, Erimi (Cypriot Wine Museum), Kantou, Souni-Zanakia, Isso Kyvides, Agios Ambrosios, Lofou, Vouni, Koilani, Pera Pedi, Mandria, Kato Platres, Omodos, Vasa, Malia, Arsos, Pachna, Anogyra and Avdimou.

The picturesque Omodos is perhaps the most famous destination for wine tourism and not without a reason. It is built near the west bank of the River Ha, at an altitude of 810 meters and is surrounded by high mountain peaks,

Wine tourism without authentic flavours is not possible. In the village of Omodos, you will taste special dishes in the taverns of the village. You’ll fill your suitcases with small souvenirs like rosiedes, tablecloths and lace. In Krasochoria you will also taste “spoon sweets”, palouze and other spicy flavours that accompany the wine. Of course, halloumi and sheftalies are on the main menu. The locals will tell you what you need to combine each wine with to feel its authentic taste.

Tip: Don’t leave the village of Lania out of your tour. It is 25 km from Limassol and it really stands out. There, you will see the old wine-press, the Museum of Storage of Koumandria and the old oil-press. In May, in fact, the women of the village open their courtyards and their homes to welcome visitors as part of the event “Lanes and courtyards of Lania”!

Cyprus with its authentic flavours and experiences awaits you to explore it…
