Attica is ideal for one-day excursion because you can quickly reach idyllic places that you may not have imagined. There are always, of course, stable values in one-day specials excursions in the summer. There are places in Attica where you can dedicate your Sunday and return refreshed full of beautiful images .
Here are four ideas for one-day excursions worth doing...
Porto Germeno
An hour and something from the center of Athens, in the arms of Corinthian gulf, Porto Germenos is the perfect one-dayer for combining mountain and the sea. This is because it has the sea to cool down and forest trails to hike. If you choose the first one, you will find five beautiful, pebbled beaches in a row, all of them with crystal clear waters and shade by armyrikia. If you go a little far, or if you <hit> a crowd on the main beaches and you look for an alternative, you will discover The Prosili (on the map here) which has clear turquoise waters, fine pebbles that reflects in the water. A little paradise in Attica.
If you are still a mountain lover, Kithaironas raises from its green slopes just above Porto Germeno, and has a lot of trails to hike. Speaking of hiking, this is also can be done by the sea side, at the 12 km (or as long as you can bear it) is the Alkyoni Trail, which starts from the chapel of Ai-Nikola on the beach. Finally, we noted the ancient castle of Aegosthenon, on the hill above Porto Germenos, which is the best preserved castle we have since the antiquity times in Greece. One of the one-day excursion in Attica worth doing.
Sounio
A unique location with fantastic beaches and idyllic setting. One of the beaches worth visiting if you haven't already done so, is the small but dreamy CAPE. Sounio, however, does not have only its beaches. What many don't know is that it has its own National Park. And it's a must for hikes, bikers and picnics in the shadow of its pine trees, covering entire green acres. The routes that cross the park reach a length of 15 km. There's chaos, a giant crater 55 meters deep, which looks like it was created by a meteor impact.
Marathon Lake
Located about 35 km from the center of Athens. The artificial lake of Marathon is an ideal choice for mini getaways away from the city's routine. It spreads over an area of 2,450 acres and is one of the most important wetlands of Attica. For the record, the lake was formed by the construction of the Marathon dam at the confluence of the Charadros and Varnavas torrents and was the main water reserve for the water supply of Athens from 1931 to 1959. For more action and experiences, you can cycle around the lake or hike in the beautiful Oinoi Gorge.
Marathon also has several options on the beaches. The beach that the old Athenians call Pines of Schinia is a guarantee. It is definitely one of the best beaches of Attica, with its fluffy sand, and kilometers of shallow clear waters and the tufted pine trees that gave it its name.
Anavyssos
Less than 70 km from Athens is an ideal destination for a one-day family trip, as you will find the tranquility you want in combination with beautiful beaches. In the area there are traces of human activity from prehistoric times, while its characteristic were, the salt flats that operated until the end of the 60s. Everything you need to find a quiet beach to have a picnic and a swim.
