Lalaria Beach: How it got its name
Lalaria beach has nothing to do with the rest of Skiathos. If, that is, here you expect to see greenery around you and trees reaching the shore, you forget it. In Lalaria the landscape is barren and wild, with the imposing rock that dominates forming an enclosed bay with blue waters. In fact, the rock extends into the sea, forming a gate, which the locals call “Trypia Petra”. At this point, you can enjoy endless dives.
The special name Lalaria is due to the homonymous word of the Skiathian dialect, which describes the large, white and round pebbles, which “scream” in the sun, as the locals say. Besides, apart from its eerie landscape and waters, the beach is famous all over the world for these pebbles. Be careful, however, you can admire them as much as you want, but it is strictly forbidden to take one with you.
The beach is located in the northern part of Skiathos and is accessible only by sea by boats leaving from the old port of the island. It is unorganized, which means that you have to go organized yourself, having with you the essentials: from water and snack, to umbrella, as it is very crowded and you will probably not find some shade to lay your towel. Don’t leave before you see the sunset. Great setting, really.

Pine nuts. First and best is Koukounaries, with its fine golden sand that shimmers. Its waters are also blue and crystal clear, while the scenery here is the classic of the Sporades, with the forest stopping a few meters before the sea. The adjacent lake, forest and bay of the area are among the protected habitats of the Natura 2000 network. Koukounaries is an ideal choice for all ages and everyone. Although it basically consists of two beaches, the big and the small Banana, which hosts mainly nudists. It is a beach with golden sand and blue and crystal clear waters, while the pine trees that surround it create a beautiful landscape.
