When you hear the word castle, you might picture the ancient and majestic castles that Greece has from centuries ago. But this time, we will introduce you to a different kind of castle. A castle that resembles the ones from Disney movies and that you probably didn’t expect to find in Greece. But it exists in the Peloponnese, in the region of Messinia. A castle that stands out from the rest and fascinates both children and adults. Its history and its uses over the years are also intriguing.
Messinia: The unknown fairytale castle
As we said before, this castle is in Messinia, in the area of Argil. It is the only castle of this style in Greece that is not part of an amusement park or a leisure area. It is the dream of a man, Charalambos Fournarakis (also known as Harry Fournier) who wanted to create a fairytale world for young children with princesses and knights in the 60s. He built it with a lot of dedication, love, and imagination by the sea, making it even more magical.
It is a true castle with small towers, gates, and armor that take you to another time when you see it from outside or inside. It has been used for different purposes over the years, such as a place for exhibitions and museum displays, as a recreation and accommodation area, and as a stage for theater shows.
Today, you can visit it if you are in Messinia and be amazed by what a person’s imagination and love can do. Watch the video from the “Travel Inspiration” Youtube channel…
