If Greece were divided into paintings, then the Nymphaeum would surely be one of the most beautiful. It is a village of unparalleled natural beauty that you have reasons to visit all year round. Built at an altitude of 1,350 meters on Mount Vitsi, Nymfaio is nestled in a virgin natural environment of forests and lakes a few kilometers away from Florina. The view from the village is equally beautiful as one's eye gets lost in the mountains and the four lakes Zazari, Chimaditis, Petron, and Vegoritida.

Nymfaio: The history of the area
It has not been characterized by UNESCO as one of the ten most beautiful villages in Europe. The cobbled paths and the stone houses, the bridges, and the well-kept courtyards make you feel like you are walking in the pages of a fairy tale. And all this in the colors of beech.
Nymfaio and the surrounding areas
Of course, the glorious past of the village, the hospitable inhabitants, and the sights complete the puzzle with the best reasons to organize your trip there. As we said, after all, every season has something to give you.
Nymphaeum (once called Niviesta or Neveska) has a long history. Around 1300 nomadic Vlachs settled there. For almost three centuries, starting from the end of the 17th century, Nymfaio was one of the largest centers of silversmithing in the Balkans. Live proof can be found in the elegant and impressive mansions of the settlement.
Even though the village due to the migration movement of the 50s and 60s reached the limits of abandonment, today it has radically changed its image. On the one hand, it has been reborn by a large part of the locals who have returned, on the other hand, it has turned into an absolute tourist destination. And even at all times of the year.
The Nymfaio also highlighted very important benefactors, among which Mihas Tsirlis stands out. So, if you go to Nymfaio, it is worth seeing up close the mansions of some great benefactors. One of them is the House of the Goldsmiths of Neveska. It is a recently renovated mansion that operates as a Museum of Silversmithing, Folklore, and History. This building is a faithful copy of an old mansion, which incorporates particularly elaborate wooden Macedonian ceilings, old frescoes, and authentic rare furniture. The trademark of Nymphaeon is also the imposing building of the Nikeios School.
