Attica is filled with hidden corners, even exotic destinations that you may not imagine that they exist. Such an exotic destination in Attica, next to us is Kavo-Skili or else the Tselevinia of Poros. This paradise is mainly known to boat owners who choose the area for diving. It is not, after all, easy to approach at this point in any other way.

What makes it stand out are the beautiful turquoise waters and blue lakes reminiscent of tropical countries especially when you see them from above.

Kavo-Skili, the tropical destination in Attica

Cape Scyllaio Kavo-Skili or Celevinia is actually a cape of the Peloponnese but administratively belongs to Attica. It is located at the eastern end of the Argolic peninsula and is the easternmost end of the geographical district of the Peloponnese.

This special place, which, of course, is not very easily accessible, in the north of the Saronic Gulf, east and south of the Aegean Sea (Argosaronikos region). East of the cape are two islets, skili and spathi, which are often referred to as “Celevinia”. Cape Scyllaio along with Cape Sounio and the island of Agios Georgios Lavreotiki they mark the limits of the Saronic Gulf.

The name Scyllaion in one version comes from Scylli, daughter of the king of the island of Megara, whose body washed up in the area. The name Tselevinia is said to be of Arvanian origin and is timed around the 16th century, when the Arvanites of the region were trying to hide from the Turks who pursued them. The Arvanites used the expression “Cellie-veenie” (=becareful come) as a warning when they spotted Turkish ships approaching the area.

Although it is geographically part of the Peloponnese, it is administratively part of Attica. The cape marks the easternmost end of the geographical district of the Peloponnese and sits north of the Saronic Gulf, with the Aegean Sea to the east and south.

Kavo-Skili is known for its stunning turquoise waters and blue lakes that resemble tropical destinations, especially when viewed from above. The beautiful, crystalline waters and exotic appearance make it a hidden tropical paradise in Attica, despite its remote location and difficult accessibility.

Kavo-Skili is primarily accessible by boat, making it a popular destination for boat owners and divers. The cape is not easily approachable by other means, which is why it remains relatively unknown to the average tourist and maintains its pristine, unspoiled character.

The name Scyllaion comes from Scylli, the daughter of the king of Megara, whose body allegedly washed up in the area. The name Tselevinia is believed to be of Arvanian origin, dating back to the 16th century when Arvanites used the phrase 'Cellie-veenie' (meaning 'be careful, come') as a warning when Turkish ships approached the region during Ottoman occupation.

East of Kavo-Skili cape are two small islets named Skili and Spathi, which are often referred to collectively as 'Celevinia'. Additionally, Cape Scyllaio marks one of the boundaries of the Saronic Gulf, alongside Cape Sounio and the island of Agios Georgios Lavreotiki.
