The first inhabitants are estimated to have been about 30 families, who settled from the north, building their houses close to each other, around 1650 AD. While in the first years, due to the fear of piracy, everything was under the absolute absence of sea view, over time, the village developed further east alongside the elevation lines, while, finally, with the opening of the main road, in the 1970s, the settlement expanded to the south, with the number of houses increasing dramatically.
The historic village has been declared a preserved settlement, while its most characteristic element is the strong presence of traditional Pelion architecture. Most of the mansions in Vizitsa have been inhabited since the 16th century by Greeks of Egypt. About twenty years ago, the Greek National Tourism Organization made an effort to restore the old mansions, keeping their exterior appearance unchanged. This resulted in an “explosion” of tourist traffic, as it quickly became a destination for those who want quiet holidays in a traditional atmosphere reminiscent of childhood. And all this in the “embrace” of nature.

Vizitsa is an ideal destination for those who love hiking. There are many hiking trails to choose from, so you can find the one that suits you best. One of the easiest and shortest routes (just 1km away) is the old path that starts from Vizitsa and ends at the
railway station of the legendary “Moutzouris” in neighboring Milies, where nature has the first say.
Another relatively passable 8 km route starts from the cobbled path next to Zoodochos Pigi, crosses the settlement of Argyreika, passes through many olive groves, and ends in Kala Nera. For more experienced hikers seeking a unique experience on the Mountain of the Centaurs, the most rugged path, which ends in Xourichti and Tsagarada, is suitable.
